Apple collects $8~12B a year for being the default search engine in Safari (the default browser on iOS, and until recently, the *only* default browser). I don't think Apple is willing to *invest* billions of $ in building a proper web search and lose up to $12B of free money 👇On twitter.com

Free? Ok not entirely. Apple has to maintain Safari to earn that money. According to some math @slightlylate did, Apple pbbly spends something around $500M on Safari. I'm sorry, but I believe receiving an (almost) free $12B a year is just too sweet a deal for Apple to ignore. They will just keep sending their users (and their search history) to Google, privacy be damned.Permalink On twitter.com
